Hi from Northern California!
Hoo-Hoo International held its 130th annual convention in Sacramento, California from September 10 through September 13th. The convention was hosted by the Sacramento Hoo-Hoo Club 109. Seeing Hoo-Hoo members and friends from all over the world, post pandemic was a very
heartwarming and joyful experience. Snark Paul Todd, 99499, did a wonderful job leading the organization throughout convention.
Black Bart was well represented with 12 members present. Our attendance won another pin for our Hoo-Hoo banner. The sawmill tour at Sierra Pacific’s mill in Lincoln, CA was truly outstanding. Sierra We Pacific has an outstanding team. We tasted wine and dined after the mill tour at Rancho Roble Winery which is also in Lincoln CA. The train ride to the Rail Museum was exceptional. The Rail museum is one of the finest museums I have ever seen. Eighty of us enjoyed a fine dinner and each other’s company. We wandered the museum and went back in time.
Hoo-Hoo business was conducted at the general meeting and our own Jeff Ward, 100164, President of Black Bart Hoo-Hoo Club 181 was elected to serve on the board of Hoo-Hoo International for a 2-year term as the Supreme 9 for Jurisdiction VI. He replaced John Taylor who was elected to 2nd Vice President of Hoo-Hoo International. Congratulations Jeff! The Embalming of the Snark was truly a brilliant Dave and Stacy Jones production. I think Snark Steve Allison, now Rameses 106, got all he bargained for in the Hoo-Hoo version of the dating game embalming ceremony. After unknowingly selecting the grim reaper for a date, they lived happily ever after for about 1 minute. The reaper took Steve into the afterlife. Unfortunately, Steve was not accepted into the pearly gates OR the hot ones and he came back as Rameses 106. Congratulations to our 106th Rameses Mr. Steve Allison. The gala dinner and magic show with music and dancing closed out the convention.
Hopefully more Black Bart Hoo-Hoo Club 181 members will attend the next convention, which is being hosted by the Cowichan Valley Hoo-Hoo Club #229, September 8 through 11 on Vancouver Island, British Columbia Canada in 2023. The Island is a wood basket for the world. You are guaranteed to have a great time, add to your lumber knowledge and make friendships that last for a lifetime.
THANK YOU SACRAMENTO HOO-HOO CLUB 109 FOR HOSTING THE 130TH HOO-HOO INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION. YOU DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB!
On Friday October 7th, Black Bart hosted its annual golf tournament at Ukiah Valley Golf Course. It was a bluebird day and perfect for golf and camaraderie. 15 black cat foursomes set out to shoot the new course record. I know you will find this hard to believe but the course record still stands. Team 5 with Ben Campbell 100888, Adam Albritton - guest, Jim Russell 100446, and Rudy Ramos 101639 won it all with a net low score of 56. I think we know who works selling sticks every day and who works doing environmental workshops and cruising timber every day at the local golf course. Congratulations guys! Adam Albritton won long drive and closest to the pin on #5 and # 9. The dude cleaned up! Adam, I have a slot in my foursome for you next year!
After a great day of golf, a delicious lunch was served by the venerable Blue Bird Café out of Hopland, CA. The Blue Bird has been catering our golf event for decades. Robin, the owner is retiring and sold the business. Thanks, Robin, for dozens of great meals!
Thank you sponsors and golfers. This event wouldn’t be one without you!
