About the event
Step Back In Time at this terrific Hoo-Hoo Event!

Black Bart Hoo-Hoo Club 181 Family Picnic
Saturday, July 18, 2026 • Sturgeon’s Mill, Sebastopol
Pack up the crew, shake the dust off your boots, and come spend a summer day the way it ought to be—under the redwoods, with good people, good food, and a little honest-to-goodness steam power rumbling through the trees.
Sturgeon’s Mill is once again firing up their 100-year-old steam-powered sawmill just for us. And let’s be clear—watching a log turn into lumber with iron, fire, and grit beats scrolling a screen any day of the week. It’s loud, it’s alive, and it’s a front-row seat to the way things used to be done… and still should be appreciated. After last October’s hit, we’re doing it again—and making it even better.

Bring a raffle prize—all proceeds support Sturgeon’s Mill and their mission to keep history alive and kicking
Got a generous streak? Toss in a gift or gift card for Santa Tim’s holiday drive—he’s out there doing the real work for local kids
All ages welcome—kids, grandkids, and that one uncle who tells the same story every year
Dress in layers—the redwoods keep things cool, even in July
Flat shoes recommended—this is sawdust country, not a ballroom
There’s something about a day like this—the hiss of steam, the scent of fresh-cut wood, the sound of laughter drifting through the trees—that reminds you what matters. This is the living history of the industry that brought us all together in Hoo-Hoo.
Come join the Black Bart crew, the Board, and our own Jeff Ward for a day that feels a little like stepping back in time… in all the best ways.
Spots fill up—go claim yours.
